The International Workshop on Physics of Nanofriction and Tribology organized by the International Center for Quantum Design of Functional Materials (ICQD) was held successfully in Exhibition hall, Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale (HFNL) on November 9-10, 2017. The workshop was co-chaired by Prof. Zhenyu Zhang from USTC and Prof. Erio Tosatti from International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), Italy. More than 60 experts and graduate students coming from China, US, Germany, Italy and Switzerland attended the workshop.
The workshop program consisted of six sessions, which covered the fields of atomic, molecular, nanomechanical, electronic, optical/plasmonic, quantum aspects, and beyond. Prof. Zijing Lin, the Physics Department Chair from USTC hosted the Opening Ceremony and expressed his warm welcome to the attendees. Foreign Member of US National Academy of Sciences, Prof. Erio Tosatti from International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), Italy, Foreign Member of US National Academy of Sciences, Prof. Michele Parrinello from ETH Zürich, Switzerland, Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Zhonglin Wang from Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, CAS, Prof. David Tomanek from Michigan State University, USA, Prof. Ju Li from MIT, USA, Prof. Giuseppe Santoro from SISSA, Italy, Prof. Fiona Kwok from University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Dr. Simon Rittmeyer from Technical University of Munich, Germany, Prof. Yu Jia from Zhengzhou University, Prof. Chuanshan Tian from Fudan University, Profs. Zhenyu Zhang, Ning Xu, Bin Jiang from USTC were invited to report on relevant topics, demonstrating the latest research progress.
The friction workshop provided an excellent opportunity for junior and senior researchers and students from USTC, to communicate efficiently and establish closer collaborations.
